Henry W. Irish
(Notice from Alyeska Corporate Communications)
We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Henry Irish, a long-time employee and Valdez resident.
Henry was raised in old-town Valdez, before the 1964 earthquake prompted town relocation. He was involved with TAPS construction, and came to work for TAPS in 1997 as a Teamster with TCC. He joined Alyeska in 2010 as a Response Coordinator and became Vessel of Opportunity Coordinator in 2013.
The job was a great fit for Henry; he loved being on the water, fishing and enjoying Prince William Sound. And his many years in Valdez had translated into countless friendships across the region. He was greatly respected and beloved in Valdez, known for his humor and generosity. A true community pillar, this summer Henry and his wife Shannon served as the King and Queen of Valdez’s annual Gold Rush Days celebration, an honor annually bestowed on individuals who have helped build and sustain the town’s legacy.
Henry is survived by Shannon and their children, Colin and Bridget.
Henry will be remembered at a Catholic mass on Friday, September 29 at 5 p.m. at the St. Francis Xavier Church in Valdez, and at a Celebration of Life on Saturday, September 30 at 4 p.m. at the Valdez Civic Center. In lieu of flowers, Henry’s family asks that people consider making donations to United Way, the American Red Cross, or to nonprofits benefiting rescue animals.
