Garry Wayne Pickard

Garry W Pickard was born September 18, 1940 in Barbourville, Kentucky.

He passed away on January 23, 2022 after a long fight with Pneumonia. Garry had two sisters, Reba Burden, Jean Patton and a brother, Jim Pickard who all preceded him in death. He is preceded in death also by his oldest daughter: Lori A Zulz and step-daughter Brandy Randazzo.

Garry is survived by his sons, Del W Pickard and wife Sonya, Garry B Pickard, Brian C Pickard and Lindsey;Step son Chance L Hodges and wife Tessa; his daughters, Sherri L Pickard, Traci M Pickard, Christi N Osborne, and Cheryl Ezell and husband Jonathon Kurt. Garry has 16 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, etc.

Garry served his country in the US Air Force. After returning home from service he worked building bridges in Michigan. Here he started his family and in 1969, he and his oldest three children made they way to Palmer, Alaska. His love for Alaska was as big as the state itself. He was always enjoying it's amazing beauty through hunting, trapping, fishing, etc. Many of those trips he took his young children with them. His oldest son, Del has the same love and passion for hunting, etc. as his father as they were best friends as well as hunting partners. Garry went to work on Alyeska Pipeline in 1977 for Alyeska Taps Project and later in 1987 went to work as a Power Vapor Technician for Alyeska Pipeline Service Company. It was during this time that I moved to Valdez, AK and met this amazing father, coach, hunter, etc. For the next almost 30 years our lives entwined and we got to do so much together.

Garry coached 13 years of little dribblers basketball as well as 26 years of little league baseball. Helping his children and grandchildren play sports was another passion of his.

Garry retired from Alyeska Pipeline service company in 2003. We moved to Wasilla in 2005 but he ended up working until 2008 as a contractor for Alyeska. Before his retirement he got to start another passion which was golf. He always gave his best at whatever he did and he usually came out on top. I know in life we did. We were so blessed to be able to do and enjoy so much after giving so much of himself to so many.

The many friends who became like family we sure did enjoy all of you. Thank you for all the memories.

I worked with Garry for many years.  He was fun and easy to work with.  He had a great personality.  My greatest rememberance was a story he told called The Beaver creek Massacre.  If you were ever fortunate to hear him tell the story it was right up there with Patrick McManus.  I told him he should write it down and submit it.
